SHERIDAN, WYOMING
Nestled in a valley, at just 3745 feet above sea level, Sheridan is bordered on the west by the dramatic Big Horn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest (approximately 15 miles away), with the expansive Wyoming high plains to the east. A broad range of natural habitat exists within Sheridan County's 2,523 square miles, from rocky high alpine reaches
above 10,000 feet to riparian areas at under 4,000 feet. This diversity of habitat equates to
diversity in wildlife for recreational viewing, hunting, and fishing. Sheridan is conveniently located adjacent to Interstate 90 and is a mere 30 miles from the junction of Interstates 90 and 25. The Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad comes through the eastern portion of Sheridan.
Sheridan County is also located on one of the major routes to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks to the west, and to the Black Hills to the east. Sheridan County is a market destination for goods and services, as well as recreational opportunities in the area.
Sheridan County is rich in human history, as well, as one of the last major battlegrounds in the Indian Wars of the late 1800s. Numerous battleground sites, historic trails, and military outposts featuring interpretive information for visitors are located throughout the county.
